Plone 3 Ownership Management

Plone 3 no longer has Set Ownership feature. But there is an unofficial form can do that.

Only owner and administrators can manage access list and publish/unpublish contents. It also takes administrator to change ownership. The Ownership tab in Edit mode only changes names to be shown as owner. It does not mean the real owner. Follow this instruction to take and assign ownership after login as an administrator.

Take Ownership

Only administrators can take ownership.

Login with an administrator account, goto Site Setup - Zope Management Interface.

Locate the folder or item to take ownership, click it, then click Ownership tab, click Take Ownership button.

Assign Ownership

Only administrators can assign ownership.

Login with an administrator account, navigate to the object to assign ownership.

Check Sharing tab to make sure that user to take ownership is in access list, or in parent folder access list.

While viewing the object to assign ownership, append URL with ownership_form. Press Enter, you should see the Change Ownership page, which is a unofficial feature of Plone 3. In the New Owner pull-down box, choose the person to assign ownership to. You may need to scroll way down to find the person.
